Mississauga United Soccer Club 2007 Results (Men's)

Quarter Final Match Report: Mississauga United Soccer Club 0 Chargers 1 (August 26th 2007)

As anticipated this was a very hard fought Mississauga Soccer game against an old foe in 'Chargers'.

The first half had very few clear scoring opportunities with both sides hitting the woodwork (a very good free kick from Steve Dosen that deserved better).

The second half continued in the same vein with both defenses having the upper hand, creating a very tight and anxious atmosphere.

With extra time and penalties looming, last minute pressure from 'Chargers', resulted in a soft and heartbreaking goal.

Final score 0:1, and the end of the 2007 outdoor soccer season.

Match Report: Mississauga United Soccer Club 7 Azzuri 0 (August 6th 2007)

Mississauga United Soccer Club got back to winning ways against an under strength Azzuri side.  The match as a serious contest was basically over after the first goal was scored on the ten minute mark by Damian Tamkun.

The goals came thick and fast on a hot Mississauga Sunday morning, and even more chances were squandered by a complacent Mississauga United forward line.

For the record the soccer match ended 7:0 with goals from Damian (3), Lee Moulson, Justin Spray, Greg Nowotniak and Jakub Kowalczyk.

Match Report: Mississauga United Soccer Club 3 Rep Boys 3 (July 29th 2007)

This was a very important game for Mississauga United Soccer Club, playing against the team that has a chance to over take them for the second qualifying spot.  The soccer match started brightly with a good early goal from Damian Tamkun, assisted by a quality pass from Steve Dosen.

Complacency seemed to creep into United’s play, against an undermanned Rep Boys soccer team.  Mississauga got what they deserved with another failed clearance resulting in a goal against.  This seemed to spur Rep Boys on even more, and they continued the half with the upper hand.

At half time the team had a good talking too and seemed to come out more positive, resulting with a determined early goal from Justin Spray which was bundled over the goal line after a good exchange with Lee Moulson.  Surprisingly this goal did not settle the team, and again came the Rep Boys, who piled on the pressure.

Mariano and the defense held out for a while, but two quick goals gave the opposition a deserved lead.   Again failed clearances and lack of cover seemed to be Mississauga United’s downfallThe play switched again after these goals, with Rep Boys losing focus and allowing a last minute equalizer from Lee Moulson who went past four defenders and beating the goal keeper from close range.  The final score 3:3, and thankfully a three point gap.  However, a few issues need to be addressed and improved if the outdoor men’s soccer team intends on advancing to the play-offs

Match Report: Mississauga United Soccer Club 4 Invasion Mississauga 1 (July 22nd 2007)

Mississauga United Soccer Club got back to winning ways with a comprehensive victory over Invasion Mississauga.  Greg Nowotniak opened the scoring in the fifteenth minute with a great header directly off a Justin Spray corner.  The second goal came soon afterwards with Lee Moulson continuing his great goal scoring form from midfield after he was put through by the returning Damian Tamkun.

Invasion scored a very impressive soccer goal, late in to the first half, chipping the goal keeper from 25 yards out.  This only served to stir Mississauga United into more attacking play, and a third goal just before the break from Damian, who tapped in an exquisite pass from Jakub C.

The game was put out of reach mid way into the second half when Justin S. neatly opened up the defense for Lee M. to finish just in side the near post.  Final score for the Mississauga United Soccer Club outdoor men’s team 4:1

Match Report: Mississauga United Soccer Club 0 EM Eagles 1 (July 15th 2007)

This was the big test against the top of the table team for Mississauga United Soccer Club A scrappy start to the soccer match in Mississauga saw both teams giving each other too much respect.

EM Eagles took control of the game midway through the first half with an untidy goal that United failed to clear.  The match continued to be very even with minimal chances created by both sides.  This was in some part due to the five man midfield that United used to stifle the Eagles creative players.

The second half saw more of the same, with United looking desperate for an equalizer.  Mississauga reverted back to a more attacking 4-4-2 style of play, which opened up both ends of the field.  However, a real scoring opportunity was never created due to some unfortunate bounces of the ball, and poor quality in the link play.

Final score EM Eagles 1 Mississauga United 0.

This leaves United in the second spot in the table.  On a positive note, EM Eagles were not that good, and we will get more luck against them the next time we meet.  The Mississauga United defense played very well and Damian Tamkun will be back for the next match.

Match Report: Mississauga United Soccer Club 4 AC Southside 1 (July 8th 2007)

The men’s outdoor soccer match against AC Southside concluded the first series of round robin games for Mississauga United.  United started brightly with the wind at their backs, forcing the play to the opposition.  Midway through the first half, Mississauga United took the lead through a well taken corner from Justin Spray, which was headed home cleanly by Jim Ryan.  The advantage was doubled just before the break from a 'cheeky chip' by Lee Moulson after being set up by Jakub C.

The second half became a bit tense with AC Southside playing very physical soccer and with the wind in their favor.  The referee lost control, and became aggressive towards both sides, booking numerous players including Mariano and Mike A. for petty incidences.  AC Southside scored an untidy goal from a ball that the Mississauga defense failed to clear.  Thankfully, United were able to regain the two goal advantage from good play by Robinson and Greg N. who released Lee Moulson for his second goal.  This completely unsettled the opposition, who continued to 'trash talk' and play aggressive soccer, which led to a red card to their number 12.

The contest was put out of reach by a well taken goal by Justin S. who was put clean through on goal by man of the match Lee M.  Final score 4:1. This was well deserved, with good soccer play from the whole team.  This means that our defense has only conceded two goals in the last four matches, and Mississauga United has a four game win streak.

Match Report:- Mississauga United Soccer Club 7 Azzuri 1    (June 17th 2007)

Wow. What a fantastic performance by Mississauga United Soccer Club.  This was the men's outdoor soccer team at their best, with all of the players in tune and contributing.

The soccer match started briskly with Mississauga United gaining the upper hand of the play from early on.  The first goal of the match came via another corner that the opposition were unable to clear, with Jim Ryan softly claiming his first goal of the season.  Damian Tamkun, had a great chance soon afterwards to make two, but missed, the ensuing follow up to this play led an altercation between Damian and one of the defenders.  Hand bags at 10 feet, led to a punch being thrown and both players instantly dismissed (straight red) by the referee.  This seemed rather unfair to Damian who was initially fouled and then struck, all he did was antagonize the player (lesson learnt - restrain yourself, especially when the guy that you front is a lot larger and has the eyes of a psychopath).

After the lengthy delay, Mississauga United's play went a bit off the boil, but a two goal lead did come from Lee Moulson who neatly chipped the goalkeeper from close in.  Just before the half time break, a needless free kick was given away to the 'Azzuri', and from the resulting kick, a bored goalkeeper failed to hold on to the powerfully struck ball, and it spilled to the oncoming striker (2:1 half time).

Within a minute of the re-start, the two goal cushion was restored, after a fast break by Steve Dosen and Greg Nowotniak released Justin Spray, who outpaced the defense and slip the ball past the oncoming keeper.  That was technically the end of the soccer game as a match, as the Azzuri let their heads drop and Mississauga's play just improved.  The fourth goal came from a great run by Jakub Kowalczyk from the left hand side, who just kept on going and blasted the ball past the goalkeeper on the near side.

The last fifteen minutes of the soccer match saw Mississauga strike with three more goals; one for the captain Jakub Cietwierkowski, assisted by Justin Spray, who claimed the last two (and completed his hat-trick), one assisted by Lee Moulson and the other assisted by our goalkeeper' Mariano De Aranaga.  Final score 7:1, and well deserved and a great soccer match in Mississauga.

Match Report:-  Mississauga United Soccer Club 1 Rep Boys 0   (June 10th 2007)

This was a defining game for Mississauga United Soccer Club.   Rep Boys represented a new challenge, very different to the previous games of the men's soccer outdoor season.  They were well organized and very fit, but with no real star quality players.  The first half saw a very gritty performance with United having the lions share of the play and the better of the Goal scoring chances.

The only goal of the soccer game, came around the 20 minute mark, when a quick pass was played through the midfield to Damian Tamkun, who nudged the ball on with head to his strike partner Justin Spray, who while in full stride, cracked the ball first time.  The ball struck from just outside the penalty area, went like a rocket, gracing the underside of the bar and leaving the opposition no chance of a save.

The second half was a much more even affair, as tired legs started to show.  However, Mississauga United still had the better goal scoring chances, one of which went in from a great shot from Greg Nowotniak, but was ruled just off-side.  The defense for Mississauga United was rock solid for the second match in a row, and was awarded by another clean sheet.

Congratulations to the whole team, who worked hard for each other, and was able to get another win under the difficult hot conditions.  On a final note 'Robinson' made his debut, coming in relief for the midfield.

Match Report:-  Mississauga United Soccer Club 3 Invasion Mississauga 0      (June 3rd 2007)

Mississauga United started well against 'Invasion', the players defiantly wanted to quickly forget the result from a week ago.  The change in center midfield seemed to have instant impact with Lee Moulson, charging forward with the ball right from the kick-off.  The first goal came early with Jakub K once again assisting Damian, who was able smash the ball home from six yards.  The second came soon after from a deep throw-in, into a crowded penalty area, with ball finally sitting up nicely for Lee, who struck home from the edge of the area.

The quality soccer was being played by Mississauga United, who kept the opposition in their own half throughout the first period, with the defense rarely being troubled.  It was good to see Steve Dosen back in defense, and looking healthy again, his influence and distribution was sorely missed in the opening game of the men's outdoor soccer season.

The second half, was a slightly tighter affair, with United willing not to commit too many bodies forward.  However, the third goal soon came from a Justin Spray corner, that was cleanly headed home by Greg Nowotniak.  The game was never in doubt from this moment on, in fact Mississauga United created many more opportunities to extend the scoring.

Final score 3:0, and a well deserved win.  The whole team contributed, and it looks like the players are already defining their roles.  Competition for a starting spot is definitely heating up.

Mississauga United Soccer Club 1 EM Eagles 2    (May 27th 2007)

Our first game of the men's outdoor soccer season, really brought us back down to earth with a thud.  We came up against a well organized younger, fitter side.  A good opening saw us have a lot of the ball, but unfortunately no good goal opportunities.  After the 20 minute mark, when we started to make our first set of substitutions, our play got away from us, and we gave up a very soft goal.

This seem to hand the initiative to EM Eagles, who never let it go.  Our defense battled well to half time, but we struggled to get out of our own half.  The second period saw much of the same, with the play being camped in the Mississauga United half.  Only occasionally were the midfield and attackers able to take the pressure of the back four.  One quick break away, did lead to a corner, which resulted in an unexpected equalizer.  From the corner, Jakub K was able to lift the ball back into the penalty area, where Damian was able to head home to the bottom right of the goal.

This only served to put more incentive into our opposition, who now attacked at will.  Their fitness started to show, as it seemed that Mississauga United were chasing shadows and not playing soccer at all.  Just as it seemed that our defense would hold out until the end, one of EM Eagles star players (#10), took the ball strolled past a couple of players and hit a rocket in the top corner from a good 25 yards out.

Final score 1:2, but lessons will be learnt, and this was a very good team that we played, so no need to drop our heads just yet.  Next week is another game.  Lets win it!
